eGroupWare

An AWS product eGroupWare: contacts+appointments+projects+to-do lists by MIRI Infotech. eGroupWare is the leading Online Collaboration Tool and the top choice for big enterprises, small businesses and teams within and across organizations all over the globe. eGroupWare is a free open source groupware software intended for businesses from small to enterprises. Its primary functions allow users to manage contacts, appointments, projects and to-do lists.

We are has come up with a product that will be configuring and publishing eGroupWare embedded with LAMP and ready-to-launch AMI on Amazon EC2 that contains eGroupWare, Apache, MySQL, Linux, PHP (LAMP).

It is used either via its native web-interface, making access platform-independent, or by using different supported groupware clients, such as Kontact, Novell Evolution, or Microsoft Outlook. It can also be used by mobile phone or PDA via SyncML.

It currently has translations for more than 25 languages, including right-to-left language support. It depends on a standard X-AMP System and as such requires no specific operating system. Most popular internet browsers are supported for use as web based clients.

You can subscribe to eGroupWare, an AWS Marketplace product and launch an instance from the product's AMI using the Amazon EC2 launch wizard.

To launch an instance from the AWS Marketplace using the launch wizard
  • Open the Amazon EC2 console at https://console.aws.amazon.com/ec2/
  • From the Amazon EC2 dashboard, choose Launch Instance.
    On the Choose an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) page, choose the AWS Marketplace category on the left. Find a suitable AMI by browsing the categories, or using the search functionality. Choose Select to choose your product.
  • A dialog displays an overview of the product you've selected. You can view the pricing information, as well as any other information that the vendor has provided. When you're ready, choose Continue.
  • On the Choose an Instance Type page, select the hardware configuration and size of the instance to launch. When you're done, choose Next: Configure Instance Details.
  • On the next pages of the wizard, you can configure your instance, add storage, and add tags. For more information about the different options you can configure, see Launching an Instance. Choose Next until you reach the Configure Security Group page.
  • The wizard creates a new security group according to the vendor's specifications for the product. The security group may include rules that allow all IP addresses (0.0.0.0/0) access on SSH (port 22) on Linux or RDP (port 3389) on Windows. We recommend that you adjust these rules to allow only a specific address or range of addresses to access your instance over those ports.
  • When you are ready, choose Review and Launch.
  • On the Review Instance Launch page, check the details of the AMI from which you're about to launch the instance, as well as the other configuration details you set up in the wizard. When you're ready, choose Launch to select or create a key pair, and launch your instance.
  • Depending on the product you've subscribed to, the instance may take a few minutes or more to launch. You are first subscribed to the product before your instance can launch. If there are any problems with your credit card details, you will be asked to update your account details. When the launch confirmation page displays

About

eGroupWare is developed in PHP and hence is platform independent (Linux, Windows, BSD Server). Several open source databases (as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MaxDB) or Microsoft SQL Server can be used. Authentication can occur via private user accounts in SQL or LDAP, or an external system, for example Mailserver or Active Directory Server (ADS).

Guidelines

Development is open and available to any member of the eGroupWare community. All fixes and improvements are done by making pull requests to the code. This code is open source and publicly available.

Limitations

  • eGroupWare installation is little bit difficult and you have to follow given instructions properly to ensure the correct functioning of this software.

Usage / Deployment Instruction

Open the URL: http://<instance ip address>

<instance ip address> : IP address of the running EC2 instance.

Step 1: Select your language. Example – select English

Step 2: Click on - Skip the installation tests

Step 3: Fill the Setup Page form with the following details -

Header user name: Please fill the Header Password as per your choice

Header password: Please fill the Header Password as per your choice

DB host: localhost

DB name: miriegroupwaredb

DB user: miriegroupware

DB password: <instanceID>

Configuration user: Please fill the Header Password as per your choice

Configuration password: Please fill the Header Password as per your choice

Step 4: Click on Write button present at the bottom of the page

Step 5: You will be redirected to another page saying “Created header.inc.php!”. Please click on Continue button.

Step 6: Fill the Config user name and Config password in Setup / config admin login section which you created in above steps and then press login button.

Step 7: Click on Install button in step 1 on Setup – Domain page

Step 8: Click on Re-check the installation button

Step 9: Click Edit Current Configuration button on step 2 on Setup-Domain page

Step 10: Fill following two details on the Setup Domain: default(mysqli) page and then click Save button given at the bottom of the page.

Enter the full path for users and group files.       /var/www/egroupware/files

Enter the full path to the backup directory.     /var/www/egroupware/backup

Step 11: Click on Create admin account button in Step 3 on Setup – Domain: default(mysqli://miriegroupware@localhost:3306/MIRIeGoupWare)

Step 12: Fill the Details for Admin account form and then click save button.

Now installation is over. Click on the Back to user login link provided in setup main menu section at left side of the page.

Login to the system with the credentials, you filled in Step 12.

SSH using root user is disabled. ec2-user is the sudo user with root privileges with access using the key pair created during launching the instance.

MYSQL can be accessed only with SSH

MYSQL User : root

Password : <instanceID>

Note : You are not supposed to change it.
